A LITTLE HELP GOES A LONG WAY

Let’s make it work.

Help with Query Studio, from your first source tab to your next useful result.

Getting started

Query Studio is now available free on Google Workspace Marketplace.

Install for free

  1. Open the Marketplace listing, click Install, and follow the prompts to choose your Google account and authorize the add-on.
  2. Open a Google spreadsheet you can edit.
  3. Choose Extensions → Query Studio → Open Query Studio and select a tool.

Pick your source tabs and header row, choose the settings, and name your output. You can create the result directly; preview is optional.

Which tool should I use?

Create a View
Select and reorder columns, filter and sort rows, and create a live formula view or an editable snapshot.
Combine Tabs
Stack two or more tabs into one table. Headers are matched after trimming spaces and ignoring case. Missing columns become blank, and a source-tab column is optional.
Split Tabs
Make separate tabs for the displayed values in a chosen column. Choose whether to include blanks. A single run supports up to 50 output tabs.
Summarize
Group by up to three columns and calculate counts, distinct counts, sums, averages, minimums, or maximums. Numeric calculations use actual numbers, not numbers stored as text.
Match Tabs
Join a main tab to a lookup tab using one key column in each. Choose what to do with unmatched rows and duplicate matches. Blank keys never match; leading zeros are preserved.

Common questions

What is the difference between a live view and a snapshot?

A live view uses a Sheets formula and recalculates when the referenced source data changes. Keep its result area empty so the formula can expand. A snapshot contains editable values from the time it was created. Combine, Split, Summarize, and Match create snapshots.

Why does my preview show fewer rows?

Preview is a sample, not a full export or a promise of the final row count. Creation uses the current source data. Match may still read the full lookup tab when previewing a sample of the main tab.

Will dates and formatting carry over?

Query Studio carries over source column formatting and applies per-cell number formats to snapshot values. Dates stored as actual dates should retain date formatting. Text that looks like a date stays text. Conditional formatting, rich text, and every layout detail are not copied, and a live view does not continually synchronize source formatting.

Can I undo an output?

Recent output history lets you delete an eligible generated tab or batch after confirmation. Deleting an output also removes edits you made in it. This is not an undo history for every change in Google Sheets.

Can I save my settings?

Yes. Save a configuration to reuse in that spreadsheet. Saved configurations are personal to your use of the add-on. You can save up to 25 per spreadsheet.

How do I clear my saved information?

Open Query Studio, choose A little help & settings, and select Clear my saved settings. This clears your saved configurations and recent-output history for the current spreadsheet. Repeat in other spreadsheets if needed. Output tabs remain until you delete them.

What if a large job stops?

Google Sheets capacity and Apps Script execution limits still apply. For a stopped run, inspect any new tabs before retrying. Try fewer source rows or columns; a live view may be a better fit when you only need a filtered view. The app attempts cleanup for handled failures, but a hard timeout can leave partial output.

Does splitting tabs change who can see the data?

No. Tabs share the spreadsheet’s access permissions. Creating separate tabs does not create separate sharing permissions.

Why can’t I install or authorize the add-on?

Query Studio is publicly available. Confirm that you are signed in to the Google account where you want to install it. School or workplace administrators may restrict add-ons; if installation or authorization is blocked, ask your administrator to allow Query Studio.
